Climate Change and Children

At the end of 2007, UNICEF released a publication, “Climate Change and Children”, that discusses the effects of climate change on children’s lives, focusing on developing countries. Climate change has a particularly severe effect on the world’s developing nations, and children are the most vulnerable.
According to UNICEF, it is clear that social and economic development will be halted if immediate action is not taken. In particular, the possibilities for achieving the Millennium Goals can be completely undermined. UNICEF emphasizes that caring for the environment and children’s health and wellbeing are mutually inclusive goals, that have to be worked on simultaneously.
And we should never forget the perhaps most important (and renewable) resource on earth – the power of young people to make a difference! UNICEF is therefore developing and Environmental Education Resource Pack, which will hopefully help governments to empower children.
