Playpumps – using children’s play to generate clean water

Posted on | September 25, 2008 | No Comments

Sometimes the most challenging problems can have the simplest solutions. Over 1 billion people around the world do not have access to a clean water supply. It’s a huge developmental problem and a big challenge for the future.

But part of the solution might already be here. Utilizing the power of children playing, the “Playpump” looks like a regular merry-go-round. But it’s not only made for having fun – it’s attached to a pump which sends clean water into a storage tank. This innovative idea is a great example of how creative thinking can lead to great possibilies! Read more about Playpumps here or watch the National Geographic feature below to learn more.

MKFC is also engaging in the issue of clean water, for example through our involvement in rural santiation programmes in Pakistan. Learn more about the work that is being done here
