GHANA DIARY: MEETING AT THE TEACHER EDUCATION DIVISION

Posted on | November 13, 2008 | No Comments

Interesting discussions and e-learning presentation at the Teacher Training Division in Accra

Now we want to visit people in responsible policial positions to get their opinons of our offer. To get there Prince is guiding and his son Kay is driving a Nissan car through crowded streets. We are looking for the division that specifically cares for teacher training, and this buildning is not situated at the same place as the Ministry of Education. We turn left, we turn right, we turn anywhere and at last find the right building

We are welcomed by Mr Victor Kofi Mante, Director of the Teacher Education Division and two of his closest collegues. We make our presentation and after that we have a nice discussion.

One big prolem, among others, with the traditional teacher education of today is that when teachers are asked to temporarily move from Accra and other major cities to perform teacher education in smaller towns they deny. They don’t want to leave their job at the present school, because if they do other teachers may have taken their places when they return.

If the teachers could stay at their ordinary schools while performing the teacher training, they would love it. And the teacher education would grow and develop much faster. That is one reason why the teachers would welcome the e-learning method.

We ask if there is any formal or legal limitations for e-learning and using the Internet for this purpose in Ghana, and the division staff tells us that of course there is not. Ghana is a free country and good e-learning would improve the situation of teacher education a lot, since it is more accessible, cheaper and more attractive among the students.

We leave the Teacher Education Division with a promise of an agreement to come, facilitating and empowering schools intending to start End-to-End e-Learning™as well as our cooperation.

Grabbing the mineral water bottles, jumping into the car while enjoying another trip in the crowded Accra City. Another good day is rolling on!
